American Bluegrass Music at SPX

An American Bluegrass Band 

visits St. Pius X School


We had a bluegrass band visit our school and teach us about this famous American music.
This music is heard more in the southern part of our country, but we really enjoyed listening and learning about it. The whole school was dancing and having a great time!

I hope our video will upload correctly so that you can enjoy the sounds of Bluegrass music, too!

    We like the music. too. Thank you for sharing. Why is it called Bluegrass Band? Why isn't it called Greengrass?

    Good question! Bluegrass music was created by a man named Bill Monroe in the 1940's. It is a mix of Irish, Scotch and African music that was played in his region of our country. He was from the state of Kentucky. Kentucky is called "The Bluegrass State" because of the type of grass that grows there. If you let this type of grass go to seed and flower, the flowers are blue.
